TENTATIVE DATES. Kentucky bird diversity is superb in mid-May, as the migrants make their way up the Ohio River. But what makes this trip most intriguing is the cultural experiences that are also part of this trip. Along with plenty of birding you’ll enjoy:
- John J. Audubon history and the largest art collection of his works at the gorgeous Audubon state park in Henderson, KY
- Spelunking at Mammoth Cave
- Bourbon Tasting
- Thoroughbred horse farm tours on the way to a bit of Appalachia
- A stay at the unique and well-preserved Shaker Village – a well-known birdy hotspot. We’ve got a lot of scouts on the ground there in case any rarities show up.
Your guides for this trip, Eddie Bartley and Noreen Weeden, have been leading Nature Trip tours since 2004. Eddie is a native of Kentucky and has been birding there since childhood.
