Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park (Bridle and Stream Trails)

March 26 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Face masks recommended, and required for anyone not fully vaccinated and boosted.

This is a great trip for those who want to start learning to identify birds by sound, as several of the birds that make their homes here or arrive for the summer have distinctive songs and calls. (I’ll email some suggested birds to study to those who register.) We’ll be walking through varied habitat on mostly level trails which are hard-packed or paved.  The creek may be burbling if we finally get some 2022 rain.  There are a few picnic tables along the way, for rest stops and snacks. This trip is family-friendly, for anyone who enjoys listening attentively to birds as well as seeing them.

There are restrooms with flush toilets at several points: across from the Wayside parking area and along the hike, and some water spigots (bring a water bottle!). There is little cell phone service or internet access in Redwood Canyon.

This trip is free but advance registration is required. The exact location and directions will be provided to registered participants. Registration will open on two weeks before the trip and close at 4 pm on Thursday, March 24.

Leader: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, (510) 484-6529

Please note the public health guidelines for this trip, as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic:

  • Walk is limited to 20 participants (plus the leaders). There will not be a waiting list.

  • Participants must register online and acknowledge acceptance of our liability waiver. Each person must register separately. No “drop ins,” please.

  • Participants will receive the trip directions and meeting spot by email when they register.

Thank you for your flexibility in helping us ensure that everyone remains healthy! Because we have to limit the size of trips, please do not sign up unless you are committed to attending.

Directions:  Take the 35th Avenue exit from I-580 or Redwood Road exit from Highway 13 and head east (uphill). Go straight at the intersection with Skyline Blvd. The Redwood Gate is on Redwood Road about 2 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. The Redwood Gate entrance should open at 8 am. No parking fee in March.  Drive back to the Wayside Area parking (very large lot on the left).
