Redwood Regional Park Bird Walk
July 20 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Spend a leisurely morning birding in Oakland’s beautiful Redwood Regional Park! We’ll look and listen for the many birds that breed here, including Pacific Wren, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Swainson’s Thrush, various warblers, California Quail (hopefully with some chicks!), and more.
Easy, level walking on pavement or wide, dirt paths. Water and restrooms along the way. We’ll do a fair amount of birding by ear (identifying birds by the sounds they make), especially since summer foliage often screens birds from view. Accordingly, we’ll try to keep fairly quiet. That said, we’ll be seeing plenty of birds, too!
Bring binoculars and dress/accessorize accordingly (water, head-covering, layers, sunblock for sun and heat). If you don’t have a good pair of binoculars, please let trip leader David Robinson know in advance and he’ll bring extras.
Birders of all skill levels (beginner to expert) are welcome. Children able to focus on birds and nature — and use their “indoor voices” — for an extended period are also welcome, if accompanied by an adult.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email, text, or call David (for the fastest response, please text).
This trip is free but advance registration is required. The exact location and directions will be provided to registered participants. Registration will open on July 9 and close at 4 pm on Thursday, July 15.
Leader: David Robinson, firstname.lastname@example.org
