Introduction to Point Reyes (Point Reyes)

Sunday, May 15, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 1:30 pm

Curious about birding Point Reyes but unsure of where to go? Join ranger Carlo Arreglo and explore some of the park’s birding “hotspots.”  Birdwatchers of all levels are welcome. We’ll start at the Bear Valley area then drive towards the Outer Point with possible stops at Drakes Beach, A, B, and C ranches, the lighthouse area, and Chimney Rock. Each site may have up to roughly one mile of walking. Please bring binoculars. Weather can be unpredictable so bring layers and be prepared to walk on sand and hard-pack dirt trails. Bring water, lunch, and snacks. There are vault toilets and water fountains at Drakes Beach and the lighthouse area. Plan for at least a half-day of birding.

Leader: NPS Ranger Carlo Arregllo, carlo_arreglo@nps.gov

This trip is free but advance registration is required. Registration will open two weeks before the trip and close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.  Directions for registered participants are below.

Please note the public health guidelines for this trip, as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic:

  • Walk is limited to 15 participants plus the leaders. There will not be a waiting list.

  • Participants must register online and acknowledge acceptance of our liability waiver. Each person must register separately. No “drop ins,” please.
