Point Reyes National Seashore (Marin County)

Sunday, October 10, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

We’ll meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center and walk the Earthquake Trail , which is level and paved. Other stops will depend on what is happening in migration and on the weather. On this less than a mile long loop you can typically see California land birds like the Anna’s Hummingbird, the Acorn Woodpecker and the Pacific Wren among others. Although the trip time is set for 9 a.m. to noon, attendees have the option of staying past noon to eat lunch and birdwatch.

Leader: Maureen Lahiff, MLahiff@aol.com, (510) 484-6529

This trip is free but advance registration is required. Registration will open two weeks before the trip and close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 7.  Directions for registered participants are below.

Please note the public health guidelines for this trip, as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic:

  • Walk is limited to 15 participants, plus the leaders. There will not be a waiting list.

  • Participants must register online and acknowledge acceptance of our liability waiver. Each person must register separately. No “drop ins,” please.

Thank you for your flexibility in helping us ensure that everyone remains healthy! Because we have to limit the size of trips, please do not sign up unless you are committed to attending.

Directions: The Bear Valley Visitor Center is just north of the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Blvd and California highway 1 in Olema.  To reach this intersection, either take Sir Francis Drake all the way up from San Rafael or take US 101 to Lucas Valley Road, across to Nicasio, around the reservoir and then to Sir Francis Drake.

We’ll need to carpool from the Bear Valley Visitor Center to locations with limited parking. Full-service restrooms at Bear Valley Visitor Center, pit toilets at most other locations. Weather variable, dress in layers.  Bring water, trail snacks and lunch if staying after noon.
