Coyote Hills Bike & Bird
July 9 @ 6:30 am - 10:30 am
A gem nestled between the Bay and many urban centers, Coyote Hills Regional Park provides habitat for a wide variety of bird species. While July is generally a slower month because many shorebirds and waterfowl haven’t returned, we still could easily see over 40 species. Maybe we’ll even see the Chilean Flamingo that pops in every once in a while!
Using a bicycle allows access to a wide range of habitats that are otherwise far apart. The terrain ranges from flat to hilly, and from paved to dirt and gravel. Road bicycles that have wider tires and that can handle a variety of surfaces will be fine. Please bring a bike lock as we may wander away from the bikes at certain points to access areas not accessible by bicycle. Over the course of four hours we may cover 10-15 miles, depending on what we see and how long we spend in each area.
Helmets required. Please also bring a bike lock, binoculars, scope (if you have), water, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, hat, layered clothing, bike pannier or backpack, spare tube/patch kit/multi-tool, positive attitude!
This trip is free but advance registration is required. The exact location and directions will be provided to registered participants. Registration will open on June 25 and close at 4 pm on Wednesday, July 7. If you try to sign up before June 25, you’ll get a message that registration is closed.
