Bort Meadow (Oakland)
February 17 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am
This trail features a variety of mature trees and grassy hillsides alongside a stretch of riparian habitat, plus a very large open meadow surrounded by trees and chaparral. Varied thrush winter here, and are seen regularly. Raptors, nuthatches, California Thrashers, and woodpeckers are also sighted regularly, along with a variety of sparrows and Pine Siskin. This is a mix of paved and dirt fire roads, wide in most areas, mostly level although there is a short (0.1 mile) 9% grade down from the parking lot to the canyon floor on a paved road. There are picnic tables and benches on the meadow, along with restrooms.
Restrooms are available. There is ample parking.
