Blake Garden (Kensington)

May 10 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am

We are well into spring and the Blake Garden is full of activity! Come bird the garden with us to observe bird species nesting and fledging young. We have had a turn-around in species from wintering birds to summer residence. The garden is full of bird chatter now with territorial disputes. If you are a regular visitor to the garden you may choose to observe its phenology through the bird species that frequent it by joining our monthly bird walk.

The Blake Garden is a public garden and landscape laboratory. In 1957, the Blake Estate was deeded to the UC Berkeley’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. With many horticulture and native plants and 80+ documented bird species, the garden is a model for many sustainable practices such as composting, rainwater-catchment and apiculture. One of the gardeners will give a brief introduction and history of the Blake Garden.

Come help us find the summer resident birds. The dirt and gravel trails go up and down hill and are well maintained. Restrooms are present on the premises. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Scopes are also welcome. We will bird for approximately two to three hours.
