Blake Garden (Kensington)

Tuesday, February 8, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

The bare trees of winter may soon change to buds and leaves, obscuring views of the bird species that frequent them. Now is the time to learn your winter and resident birds before spring hides them. Come bird with us at the Blake Garden. Winter is a great time to hone in on your skills by finding birds in bare broad-leafed trees. This allows for opportunity to see the birds you hear. If you are a regular visitor to the garden you may choose to observe its phenology through the bird species that frequent it by joining our monthly bird walk.

The Blake Garden is a public garden and landscape laboratory. In 1957, the Blake Estate was deeded to the UC Berkeley’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. With many horticulture and native plants and 80+ documented bird species, the garden is a model for many sustainable practices such as composting, rainwater-catchment and apiculture. One of the gardeners will give a brief introduction and history of the Blake Garden.

Come help us find the resident and overwintering birds. The dirt and gravel trails go up and down hill and are well maintained. Restrooms are present on the premise. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Scopes are also welcome. We will bird for approximately two to three hours.
