Bike & Bird the Bay Trail – East Bay
August 20 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
Ride with us along the Bay Trail, from Berkeley to El Cerrito, to look for returning winter and resident shorebirds and waders (e.g. Surfbird, Oystercatcher, Ridgway’s Rail), plus raptors and passerines.
We’ll ride about 15 mostly flat, paved miles on the Bay Trail, with one short climb over the racetrack and one short stretch on gravel. The route goes over the multi-user bridge, heads a short way toward Point Emery, and then north past The Meadow (Eastshore State Park), the Race Track, and Pt. Isabel to Meeker Slough. You will need to be VERY mindful of your stops and pulloffs on these busier-than-ever trails to prevent collisions with pedestrians, dogs and other bikers. Helmets required. Bring binoculars, water and lunch. Weather should mostly be fine with maybe some wind and fog, so wear layers if needed. There is a bathroom/toilet at start and later at Pt. Isabel.
Here are Ebird lists for an idea of what you might see along the way.
