Alameda Creek-Coyote Hills Bike Ride
October 23 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Ride with us along Alameda Creek to Coyote Hills looking for waterbirds, raptors and passerines. Due to drought the creek and main marsh may be drier and waterbird numbers lower than usual, but we also usually see a good assortment of passerines and raptors on this trip. We’ll cycle a maximum of 20 mostly flat miles, including a short distance on urban streets. The approximate cycling route is here.
Bring binoculars, water, and wear layers. Please bring snacks AND lunch, since there is no food available for purchase on this route. Helmets are required. Restrooms are located at the BART station, at a staging area along the creek, and at the Coyote Hills Visitor Center, where we will eat lunch. Rain or bad air quality cancels. If the weather or air quality is questionable, send your e-mail address to Pat, email@example.com, the night before the ride to receive news on the status of the ride. Call or email Cathy Bleier with any other questions.
This trip is free but advance registration is required. Registration will open two weeks before the trip and close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 21. Directions for registered participants are below.
Please note the public health guidelines for this trip, as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic:
Ride is limited to 12 participants, plus the leaders. There will not be a waiting list.
Participants must register online and acknowledge acceptance of our liability waiver. Each person must register separately. No “drop ins,” please.
Thank you for your flexibility in helping us ensure that everyone remains healthy! Because we have to limit the size of trips, please do not sign up unless you are committed to attending.
Directions: Meet no later than 10:00 a.m. at the Union City BART station by the ticket machines ready to ride (Leaders plan to be on trains arriving at 9:40 and 9:46).
