Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s environmental education programs provide unique opportunities for Bay Area residents–young and old alike–to learn about our local wildlife and the natural world.

Our monthly Speaker Series presentations feature fascinating presentations about natural resource issues, while our classes provide opportunities to learn about birds, wildlife, mushrooms, gardening, and more. Our school-based programs connect students with their local environment and with birds and other wildlife, while inspiring them to improve their academic achievement. They learn how respect for the natural world is related to respect for themselves and their community. They are also given skills to take action to protect the environment. We believe that only through education can our natural heritage be passed on to future generations.

Golden Gate Bird Alliance provides many opportunities in San Francisco and the East Bay for people of all ages to discover the fascinating world of wildlife and natural habitats—from our own backyards to far distant continents.

Our monthly Speaker Series features slide lectures by experts in ornithology, conservation, eco-travel, and other topics. Programs are presented on both sides of the bay and allow the whole family to learn about birds, wildlife, and conservation.

Our classes on bird identification and related topics offer a wide variety of choices to birders of all levels. Join us and discover for yourself how much there is to learn and enjoy!

School-Based Programs

Our Eco-Education Program offers year-round, hands-on, environmental education to Title I (federally-funded) elementary school students and their community in East Oakland, North Richmond and Southeast San Francisco.  Golden Gate Bird Alliance staff and volunteers work with teachers, students, and their families to explore and conserve local wildlife habitats throughout their local watershed—from the classroom and to the Bay and the ocean.

International Efforts

Golden Gate Bird Alliance’s Latin America Committee works in the Bay Area and beyond to promote conservation and educational programs in Latin America that benefit birds and their habitats.
