Christmas Bird Count – Dec. 15 and 27

Registration has now closed for our Oakland and San Francisco Christmas Bird Counts. The Oakland count takes place on Sunday December 15 and the SAan Francisco count on Friday December 27.

Participants: You should hear from your team leader with details in the week before your count.

PB&J Birders Event for Kids – Dec. 8

Join us on Sunday morning December 8th from 10 a..m. until noon for our fourth PB&J Birders walk for kids and families — this time in Berkeley!

Our fun, friendly nature education staff will lead us in scouting for wintering waterfowl and shorebirds along the Berkeley waterfront. We’ll start at Aquatic Park — looking for pelicans, ducks and more — and then cross the bike bridge to look for shorebirds.

Meet: At 10 a.m. in front of the playground at the south end of Bolivar Drive. Bolivar Drive runs north to south and can be accessed by two perpendicular streets, either Addison or Bancroft. Bancroft is closer to the playground. Parking is available along Bolivar or in the small parking lot next to the playground. The area is easily accessible by bicycle.

Bring:  Snacks, water, layers of clothes,a lunch for afterward and binoculars if you have them. We will also have quality binoculars and field guides available. Restrooms and water faucets available on site.
This event is free and open to families with kids of all ages.

PB&J Birders Event for Kids – Sept. 29

Join us on Sunday morning September 29th for our third PB&J Birders walk for kids and families!

Share fall migration with the kids in your life! Little birders and their parents/guardians are invited on this easy walk at Land’s End in San Francisco, where we will look for shorebirds, ducks and more.

Bring snacks and binoculars/scopes if you have them. PB&J Birders will bring extra binoculars, birding books, coloring projects/pages and crayons, cameras, and of course peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to share! (Please let us know if you or your kids have allergies.) Meet at 10 a.m. near the Visitors Center in the parking lot of Land’s End (680 Point Lobos Avenue).

PB&J Birders walks are led by a dad (Tom) and his two daughters (Maire and Emma, one of whom designed the PB&J Birders logo). PB&J Birders events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tom at tommacbarbc@aol.com.

PB&J Birders Event for Kids – June 30

Join us on Sunday morning June 30th for our second PB&J Birders walk for kids and families!

This easy walk around Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park will allow little birders and their parents/guardians to look for cormorants, mallards, juncos, robins, Canada Geese, and Great Blue Herons ­ and more! The walk is on mostly level ground along a developed and paved pathway. Most of the walk is wheelchair accessible.

Bring snacks and binoculars/scopes if you have them. PB&J Birders will bring extra binoculars, birding books, coloring projects/pages and crayons, cameras, and of course peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to share! (Please let us know if you or your kids have allergies.)
