Birdseed, bird feeders, field guides—you can purchase all these items and more at the Nature Store, located at the Golden Gate Audubon office in Berkeley. The store is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Supporting Members of Golden Gate Audubon receive a 10 percent discount on all Nature Store merchandise, and proceeds from the sales fund our many conservation and education programs.
At the Nature Store, you'll find specialized feeders for holding thistle seed, sunflowers, and suet, and feeders for hummingbirds, plus squirrel-proof models. We have black oil sunflower seeds, sunflower chips, Nyjer thistle, and wild bird Audubon and premium mixes. Our prices for birdseed are among the lowest in the Bay Area.
The Nature Store has the latest popular field guides and references, including the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America (fourth edition), The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America, and Kenn Kaufman's Birds of North America.
We also have resources that will help you identify bird calls and songs. "Our Birds: California" software for your computer features vocalizations, along with photos, maps, and videos, representing 365 birds seen in California. The "Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs: Western Region" for a CD player will introduce you to the calls and songs of more than 550 species.
Along with numerous items for children, we have a flock of plush birds, among them California Quail, Mourning Dove, and Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow—each of which produces an authentic call or song when squeezed.
To show your support for Golden Gate Audubon in style, you can purchase a lapel pin, a t-shirt featuring a Least Tern, or a hat emblazoned with a California Quail created by Alan Hopkins.
